Gerlinde Groitl
Prof. Dr. Gerlinde Groitl directs the ISS Institute for Security and Strategy GmbH in Munich and teaches International Politics at the University of Regensburg’s Institute of Political Science.
Her scholarly work focuses on international security and strategy with a special focus on the US, Germany, the EU and NATO as well as the great power competition between Russia, China and the West in a changing global order. To date she has published three monographs on the above themes. Groitl previously held posts at the University of Freiburg, the University of Passau and the University of Regensburg’s Professorship of International Politics. She has held visiting fellowships at the Center for Transatlantic Relations at Johns Hopkins/SAIS in Washington, DC, the university think tank LSE IDEAS at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Masaryk University in Brno in previous years. Since 2023 she serves as member of the board of the German Association of Political Science (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Politikwissenschaft/DGfP).
Groitl holds a doctoral and a postdoctoral degree in Political Science from the University of Regensburg and recently completed an Executive Education Certificate in Public Policy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, a Strategic Foresight Certificate at the Geneva Center of Security Policy GCSP and a MBA Fundamentals Certificate at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School. She regularly contributes to policy-oriented conferences and projects.
Marco Overhaus
Dr. Marco Overhaus is a Senior Research Associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. He is the deputy leader of the research group on the United States at SWP. His main focus is on transatlantic defense cooperation as well as US defense policy in Europe and in the Persian Gulf region.
From August 2015 to January 2016 he worked for the Policy Planning Staff and the North America Department in the German Foreign Office. There he was responsible, among other things, for the planning and implementation of a “strategy room” on transatlantic cooperation.
Previously, Marco Overhaus also worked as a transatlantic fellow for the RAND Corporation in Washington DC as well as for the French Institute for International Affairs (IFRI) in Paris. He received his PhD in Political Science from the University of Trier (dissertation on German security policy within NATO after reunification). Marco Overhaus studied Political Science/International Relations at the Universities of Potsdam, Germany, and California (UC San Diego).
